For “What drawings are typically needed before a remodel permit can be submitted?” start with the actual scope and the authority having jurisdiction. On…
Schedule Your Free ConsultationThe permit set should show enough existing and proposed information for the agency to review the actual work
A remodel submittal commonly includes existing and proposed floor plans, demolition information, elevations or sections when needed, and coordinated structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, and life-safety information triggered by the scope. A site or plot plan may also be needed when exterior, zoning, access, or property conditions matter. The exact list comes from the local jurisdiction and project, not a universal drawing checklist.
Show clearly what exists, what is removed, and what is new
Reviewers need to understand the change. Existing and proposed plans should use consistent dimensions, room names, openings, and notes. Demolition information should identify what is being removed without forcing the reviewer to infer it from a final plan.
Coordinate architecture with engineering
Structural drawings and calculations should match wall locations, openings, roof or floor changes, and other architectural geometry. A beam that conflicts with a duct or a structural wall that lands on an uncoordinated opening can create corrections before the project even reaches the field.
Include building-system information at the level the scope requires
Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, ventilation, energy, smoke or carbon-monoxide devices, and other regulated systems may need to be shown depending on the work. The permit set should also include applicable product documents, engineering, surveys, or reports when the jurisdiction requires them.
Check whether planning review comes before building review
Additions, exterior changes, or other projects can have zoning or design-review questions that should be resolved before the building set is treated as final. Use the current local submittal checklist for the actual address and scope.
Run one coordinated pre-submittal review
Assign responsibility for reconciling all sheets and consultant documents before submission. When correction comments arrive, update every affected sheet so the resubmittal does not introduce new contradictions.
