For “Which bathroom upgrades are worth installing during the remodel rather than adding later?” there is no universal winner. Compare the options against…

The best during-remodel upgrades are usually concealed infrastructure rather than decorative accessories. Improved ventilation, dedicated electrical capacity, bidet power, blocking for grab bars or glass, better shower lighting, recessed storage, heated-floor infrastructure, and planned valve or plumbing locations can be expensive to add after tile and waterproofing are complete.
Prioritize infrastructure that disappears behind finishes
Blocking, wiring, piping, niches, valve bodies, exhaust ducts, and floor-heating components should be resolved before the walls and floor close. Decorative mirrors, towel hooks, or easily replaceable light fixtures can usually be changed later with far less demolition.
Plan accessibility without forcing a future rebuild
Even when grab bars are not needed today, documented backing can create options later. Door width, shower entry, clear floor area, hand-shower location, and controls can also be considered while the room is being rebuilt. The goal is not to turn every bathroom into a clinical space, but to avoid obvious barriers that are expensive to correct later.
Coordinate heated floors before tile
Floor-heating systems can require electrical capacity, thermostat location, sensor placement, manufacturer-specific underlayment, and a clear installation sequence. Decide this before tile preparation and rough electrical work are complete rather than trying to insert it after the floor assembly is finished.
Improve ventilation while the ceiling and walls are open
A better fan is only useful if the duct route, exterior termination, make-up air, and controls support it. The remodel is the right time to correct a poor duct path or add practical controls before finished surfaces make access difficult.
Photograph future-ready work
Take labeled photos of backing, wiring, piping, and waterproofing before concealment. Future infrastructure has little value if nobody can later locate it or understand what capacity was provided.
